Project title: Intelligent wave breaking characterisation with machine learning

This project utilises ML to characterise the initiation of wave breaking and seeks a novel equation-based description of the wave breaking discovered by ML. The current proposal will identify the breaking initiation according to a new definition, an approach only accessible if we exploit ML. This new definition will replace the inconsistent empirical formulations, and, more importantly, can reveal a hidden pathway to the critical question: can we discover the formulation describing the breaking process after the initiation? Answers to these questions would have benefits in ocean engineering but also contribute to the ultimate question: can we discover physics with ML?
